David Axelrod’s Alinsky-ism gave me an AH-HA! moment today

from The Huffington Post/Howard Fineman:

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s top adviser suggested to The Huffington Post late Wednesday that the administration is ready to accept an across-the-board, temporary continuation of steep Bush-era tax cuts, including those for the wealthiest taxpayers.

That appears to be the only way, said David Axelrod, that middle-class taxpayers can keep their tax cuts, given the legislative and political realities facing Obama in the aftermath of last week’s electoral defeat.

We have to deal with the world as we find it,” Axelrod said during an unusually candid and reflective 90-minute interview in his office, steps away from the Oval Office. “The world of what it takes to get this done.”

I knew I’d read this same comment before in Saul Alinsky’s book Rules for Radicals and went on a search to find this quote. Sure enough here it is:

“As an organizer I start from where the world is, as it is, not as I would like it to be. That we accept the world as it is does not in any sense weaken our desire to change it into what we believe it should be – it is necessary to begin where the world is if we are going to change it to what we think it should be. That means working in the system.”

I doubt that anyone else is going to catch this Axelrod slip but it’s in verbal gaffes like this that the true socialism of this regime, makes itself known.

Post election random thoughts

Republicans took over 680 state legislature seats and the majority of governorships on Tuesday. This, in my opinion is where the real power lays – or lies, I don’t know which. Changes have to be made at the state level to prevent an over extension of the federal governments long reaching arms.

For instance, card check being trounced in Arizona and numerous states that have voted not to recognize the expansion of the feds power in health care. It’s in the states where many of these federal mandates can be stopped. And it’s where state rights has to be forced.

But the most important thing is redistricting that will begin in many states subsequent to the last census. I have confidence that the Republicans will more fairly redistrict these states than the democrats have done in years past.

As Sean said yesterday, the state houses are the “farm leagues of politics.” This is where the men and women who run for federal office are educated and prepare for the “big leagues in DC.” This is another important reason that we took so many state legislatures on Tuesday. If we start with ethical, intelligent and hard working people  here, then we are investing in our future. It’s that simple.

~~~ooOoo~~~
All this talk about middle class tax cuts got me thinking today. The term “middle class”, according to Mark Levin, was coined by Karl Marx.
The democrats are pushing more class warfare by promising no tax increase to the middle class (whatever that means to them THIS week) but the Republicans are saying no increase to ANYONE.
This more than anything crystalizes the difference in ideology.
As Rush said in his speech to CPAC (and I paraphrase) “Republicans look out and see people. Not race or class, just human beings.”
Democrats see groups, not people, in the form of minorities and in the form of dollar signs (tax dollar signs.) They divide and conquer. They calculate which group they can pit against another.  Black Americans versus white Americans, Hispanics versus the State of Arizona and so on. In this case and in Alinsky fashion, they can always fall back on the “have a lots” versus the “have less or have nothings.”
So, in their typical Alinsky style, they are renaming who’s rich (how much is it this week, $350,000/year?) and demonizing them in the name of so-called tax cuts for the rest of us.  Which by the way, are not tax cuts. This is another misnomer put out there by the media and the left ruling class – there I go, using that class word.
May Day epiphany
May 1 – International Workers Day – is a traditional date for political demonstrations. Immigration advocates latched onto that tradition in 2006, when more than 1 million people across the country – half a million alone in Chicago – protested federal legislation that would have made being an illegal immigrant a felony. That legislation ultimately failed. My Way News
When I was a little girl, my mother helped me make May baskets to leave on neighbor and friends doorsteps. Of course, none of mine were as pretty as the one below. The tradition was to leave them, knock and run so as not to be caught doing the good deed. I never understood why you didn’t want to be caught doing something nice but even at that young age, I thought this must be one of those mysteries of life that I’d never be able to know.
Sam Henry has a blog tonight that brought back those almost forgotten memories (see link below.) And it made me think about what May Day means today – a union and communist holiday to protest something.
May baskets
After reading Sam Henry’s blog and then reading this article on My Way News, it set me thinking. We should be taking a page or dozen out of the Alinsky primer and turn the tactics back on them. I say we do what the opposition has been doing: hijack the holiday and make it our own. Why does this day (May 1 or May Day) have to be a communist/labor union protester’s holiday? Why can’t we make it a pro-Constitution type rally day? Or something else on those lines. I’m pretty confident that we can match, if not out-number them.
Or maybe my middle of the night epiphany and mother/daughter reminiscence are just not important and who cares what those leftists do and when.
I am seriously tired, after all…
What Happened to Maypoles? It’s Labor Unions, Activists and Communist Regimes
Sun Tzu and The Art of War on Obama
Thus, what is of supreme importance in war is to attack the enemy’s strategy. Sun Tzu/The Art of War
Sun Tzu/Art of War
I love The Art of War. It’s full of one and two line wisdoms that are as pertinent today as they were thousands of  years ago when it was written. Sun Tzu was a Chinese general who lived sometime between 720 and 220 B.C. Historians dispute the times of his life. But his wisdom can be used in daily life as well as in something as big as the political fight of our lives.
Know thy self, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories.
In order to beat this president’s agenda and the rubber stamp congress, we must understand the strategy they use, how they use it and what it looks like. Their blueprint is Saul Alinsky’s book, Rules for Radicals and if you’ve not read it, I suggest you do so.
If ignorant both of your enemy and yourself, you are certain to be in peril.
The Alinsky strategy is what Obama used to win the White House and it’s the strategy that his disciples will be using from now until their mid-term elections in November. We need to use their book to defeat them.
From Sean Hannity’s new book Conservative Victory, Alinsky’s son wrote:
“…the method of my father always works to get the message out and get the supporters on board. When executed meticulously and thoughtfully, it is a powerful strategy for initiating change and making it really happen. Obama learned his lesson well. I am proud to see that my late father’s model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to effect the Democratic campaign of 2008. It’s a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday.”
We need to know what their Alinsky-inspired attacks will be (not too difficult to figure out at this point: racism, class warfare, division.) If we don’t, we will be certain to be “in peril.”
They have over-reached in tremendous ways. Believing this is their last and only chance to “remake” America, Obama and his minions have rushed headlong their socialist plan and it’s been too much, too fast for most Americans. They have failed to be prudent and measured. They misunderstood the American people and they awakened them to this disaster they are creating.
He who is prudent and lies in wait for an enemy who is not, will be victorious.
Obama, Pelosi, Reid, et al have not been prudent or measured. They have run amok, drunk with power and taking over everything in their wake.  But in their imprudence, Obama and his cronies really are hanging themselves and their agenda. Americans find this disturbing and frightening. We are not going to sit back and let this disaster continue. But we have to be prudent, we have to live up to our own principles and ideals. Good and right will overcome this.
Remember that great line by Rahm: “never let a good crisis go to waste.” Sun Tzu said the same thing: “opportunities multiply as they are seized.”
We have to seize this opportunity and make sure we know what they will do, how they will do it and then we will know how we will marginalize and beat them.
As Hannity said today on Levin: “all hands on deck!” We have to educate ourselves and prepare to defeat them at the voting booth this fall. We’ve got to get ourselves and our friends and families involved in whatever way we can to remove the socialist hijacking of our Constitution and our lives.
Can you imagine what I would do if I could do all I can?
The Guardian misleads readers with story about the SPLC
The  UK Guardian picked up the Southern Poverty Law Center story and ran with it under the misleading headline “Inside the world of Obama’s secret-service bodyguards”.  Their story has almost nothing to do with how the secret service is protecting Obama and almost every thing to do with right wing extremism as defined in the SPLC report. But as typical with the media, the facts can’t get in the way of the story they want to tell.
Apparently everyone believes that if anything happens to this president it will be at the hands of some right wingnut, as they define whatever that  is. But this morning at Red State, Erick Erickson does a fine job defining the real origin of violence in the name of politics.
It’s been conveniently ignored that Joe Stack, the Texas pilot who flew into the IRS offices, was quoting Marx in his final missive. That fact doesn’t fit the narrative that the media has already written, so they just leave that out.
Scapegoating the right – an Alinsky tactic – will continue to be the statist media’s plan of action.
Obama’s Alinsky lessons in action
Very interesting and enlightening from Investors Busniness Daily:
Democrats strategy: Divide and conquer
Given the pressure Republican candidates feel from the extreme right in their party, there is a critical — yet time-sensitive — opportunity for Democratic candidates,” the DSCC writes. “We have a finite window when Republicans candidates will feel susceptible to the extremists in their party. Given the urgent nature of this dynamic, we suggest an aggressive effort to get your opponents on the record.”
The memo urges Democratic candidates to force their opponents to answer a series of questions on health care, taxes and some of the favorite causes of the far right:
“Do you believe that Barack Obama is a U.S. citizen? Do you think the 10th Amendment bars Congress from issuing regulations like minimum health care coverage standards? Do you think programs like Social Security and Medicare represent socialism and should never have been created in the first place? Do you think President Obama is a socialist? Do you think America should return to a gold standard?
If a Republican candidate says no to any of the questions, the memo says Democrats should “make their primary opponent or conservative activists know it. This will cause them to take heat from their primary opponents and could likely provoke a flip-flop, as it already has several times with Mark Kirk in Illinois.”
The first mistake that the Left is making is calling the tea party a far right fringe or extremist group of the Republican party. Tea partiers will argue that point with passion. Tea partiers do not affiliate with any one party.  They are not a fringe of anything and calling them extremists will guarantee the political death of anyone who says it.
The next mistake is taking a page out of the Alinsky play book and using our book against us. Asking us to “live up to” a set of questions that they are framing is all about Alinsky’s tactics. That game can be played both ways and the same questions can be turned on the democrats to tag them as the marxists they are.
Now the news is that the dems are closing ranks to pass this health care bill regardless of the messages they have been getting from the American people. Their arrogance is astounding.
The last man standing is on the Right
We need to be vigilant. And prepare for what they plan to do. They aren’t going to go down without a bloody fight. But we have to make them bloodier than we get.
Blogging Rules for Radicals @ PajamasMedia.com: suggested reading
Months ago I heard Mark Levin mention Saul Alinsky and his book Rules for Radicals. I have a brother who is a socialist and it drove me crazy trying to understand what could possibly have made him this way. (Yes, I admit it. I think socialism is a mix of mental illness and religion.) So my fingers ran to Amazon.com and I ordered the book, hoping this would give me some enlightenment on my brother, the leftist movement and also, what the government is becoming.
As I read the book, I kept seeing more and more of Alinsky’s influence in the behavior and actions of the current administration. I saw his tactics in use during the campaign. It became crystal clear to me what was going on, what they were doing and how it was going to play out for us. In short, it scared the hell out of me!
I read up on Alinsky, himself, too. Where he came from, what educational background he had and so forth. I was surprised to learn he came from Chicago, just as Obama and his cronies had. Several months ago, I blogged about him here.
Right now, on PajamasMedia.com, Barbara Curtis (BarbaraCurtis.com) is doing a read-a-long book blog about Alinsky and his book. Bloggers are reading the book with her, she blogs about each chapter and they then discuss. This is part one of her Blogging Rules for Radicals. She and her blogger/readers have done 3 parts, so far.
I recommend that you take the time to read her blogs and the blogger comments.
In the words of Sun Tzu: If ignorant both of your enemy and yourself, you are certain to be in peril.
There is much to learn and little time to do it in.
Wake up, Glenn. They’re pulling an Alinsky on you.
And you are NOT a private citizen. You are a public person. And as a public person, you are a target for everything and anything from everyone: not that it’s right or ethical or even civil. The attacks on Beck by the left are none of those things.
The left is afraid of Beck, just like they are of Sarah Palin, else there would be no attention paid to either of them.
Like him or not, seriously, look what Beck’s accomplished. He’s been instrumental in bringing down ACORN. He exposed Van Jones and brought about his resignation. He’s exposed rampant socialists and socialism in the Obama administration.  And probably the most important thing he’s done: he brought together an entire segment of this country who felt left out and ignored and empowered them – the 9/12er’s.
But just like Palin, the left can’t argue Beck’s points so they attack him, personally. They can’t stand his base of supporters or his popularity so they’re doing an Alinsky: target, freeze, ridicule and then keep up the pressure. How much does it matter to anyone the circumstances of his mother’s death? And when is a public person’s life his own? They can’t attack him for being an alcoholic, he’s made that part of his life totally public.
But his mother’s death? I mean com’on. How does it benefit anyone to know this? And why does it matter to anyone?
Just like right-to-lifer’s who bomb abortion clinics, the left does nothing to further their cause by beating this drum; if anything, it hurts their cause. People have sympathy for someone who’s personal and private life is put under the microscope by others who are anything but well meaning. This does nothing but increase Beck’s ratings and make him a more likable and sympathetic figure.
Like Beck says: if the left (including the media) has an issue with the investigations that he’s been doing, if  they can refute the things he’s uncovered, then get to work and do so. Otherwise, shut your pie hole and leave his personal life to him.
Or not. But continue these attacks at the risk of discrediting yourselves because regarding Glenn’s personal life, we don’t care.
