Last week, on Hannity’s radio show he discussed a recent column by Jeffery Lord/The American Spectator, called American Tipping Point. In it, Lord discusses Malcolm Gladwell’s book Tipping Point and makes comparisons to America’s tipping points at different times in our history and the rise of conservatism and the Tea Party.
Lord says that: Thanks to the Tea Party movement, Conservatism is on the verge of a major victory that dwarfs the technical and actual realities of whatever the details of the resulting deficit deal passed last night. Yes, there is a long, long way to go. But the idea that America doesn’t, in fact, have to be governed for eternity as a debtor nation with a mammoth, out-of-control, ever-expanding government is winning the day. It is tipping the balance with increasing decisiveness against an idea that has become so much a part of conventional wisdom that even some conservatives, startlingly including, inexplicably, the Wall Street Journal, have displayed the wobblies at the thought of confronting the Leviathan. The WSJ’s attacks yesterday against Jim DeMint, Michele Bachmann and Sean Hannity, saying “sooner or later the GOP had to give up the hostage” — follows another editorial in which the paper railed against Tea Party members as “hobbits.” The paper, sounding like cranky British Tories in 1775 Boston rather than the bold, forward-looking paper that championed the much-derided ideas of Ronald Reagan, wildly bought into the liberal notion that the Tea Party from Hobbitville is somehow holding the government hostage, instead of the other way around. In fact Big Government liberalism has spent decades holding and trying to hold the average American hostage to all manner of outrageous tax rates, taxes and regulations on everything from capital gains to sex (in Harry Reid’s Nevada) to soda, SUVs and poker.
Lord chronicles the rise of conservatism from Senator Robert Taft’s strident opposition to FDR’s mega New Deal in the 30’s, through William F. Buckley to the great Ronald Reagan to Mark Levin’s landmark best seller and Tea Party bible, Liberty and Tyranny and how all these little, or sometimes large events, are causing a tipping point in American history. He says that conservatism is spreading almost like a virus: in Gladwell’s vocabulary, “connectors” — “people with a particular and rare set of social gifts” who have the ability to “spread” an idea like an epidemic, a Tipping Point is in the works. Henry Regnery, for example, published and made a star of Buckley, who befriended Reagan who inspired Limbaugh, who was befriended by Buckley and placed on the cover of National Review, with Limbaugh in turn aiding Hannity and Levin and Levin’s book inspiring the Tea Party etc., etc.
Reading Lord, once again gave me hope. And reminded me that in Beck’s words, we are not alone. Most of America is conservative to some degree. Most of Americans want to be or remain at least, middle class and we see that vanishing under Obama’s ideology. Most of America finds communism (call it socialism or European socialism but it’s still a form of communism) to be antithetical to the fundamentals of our beliefs and our founding. And most of America will fight it.
I hope they don’t think for a minute that we will forget being called racists, nazis, homophobes, Hobbits and terrorists. We will not. The real revolution will occur on November 6th, 2012 – bloodless, gunless and in a voting booth. They are being fore warned and to disregard the tipping point signs will be at their own peril.

Two days ago, Matt Drudge linked to a new book by Jerome Corsi, unflinchingly titled Where’s the Birth Certificate? The book immediately leapt to number one on Amazon.com, where it has remained ever since. The media has shown its usual incredulity at the indisputable stupidity of the American people. How could so many people question President Obama’s birthplace? How could they wonder about his origins? Are they all simply racist?
The answer, of course, is that Americans are desperately seeking an answer to a simple question: why does President Obama appear to be so un-American? The term un-American here is not synonymous with anti-American (though Obama has been that on occasion); instead, it merely signifies that President Obama is unconcerned with typical American principles and traditions. He sees capitalism as selfish and evil, religion as dangerous and oppressive; he sees the Constitution as antiquated and entrepreneurialism as exploitative. [Read more by Ben Shaprio/NewsRealBlog]
Sometimes you read something and have an epiphany-like moment. Or more like a “he knows exactly what I’m thinking but couldn’t say it as well” experience. Shaprio put a tack right in the middle of the map for me with the question “why does Obama seem so un-American?”
I’ve never been marching in the birth certificate parade because some little voice tells me it could all be a head fake. Now, I have to admit that another little voice tells me there could very well be something to it, too. And if he does have a valid BC, then why spend millions of dollars to keep it hidden? I just have too many questions about him and why he’s guarded his life like no one I’ve ever seen in public life before. If I’m not mistaken, his annual physical has never been released nor were his medical records during the campaign. (Someone correct me with evidence, if I’m wrong, please.) I’ve never seen a politician with so many aspects of his life “off limits” like this guy.
But I digress.
The point is that this man we (well, not me) put in the Oval Office seems like he’s not one of us. He feels different from all the other Americans we know, we work with or work for, we love, we marry, we fight with and for. Obama is not like any of my neighbors or my state Senator. His values are not our values. For me, he IS the Anti-American. His principles are nothing like mine.
When you think about it, he didn’t grow up like a typical American. His youth was spent in foreign lands with foreign traditions and cultures. Is that a bad thing? Maybe, because it means that he can’t really relate to the typical American. He faked it pretty well during the campaign but now that he’s sitting in the White House, the difference between him and pretty much most of America, is very clear and he’s doing very little to hide it.
I guess what makes me the most uncomfortable about Obama is that he’s made me the enemy. I can’t remember a president who made those in the opposing party into the enemy, like this man has. (I find myself wistfully wishing for the days of Bill Clinton…. kinda.) To Obama, it’s them against us and by framing it this way, he’s made me feel like I’m in a civil war with my own government.
Remember when he said that we were no longer red states or blue states but now we were united states? He only said it once because he never really meant it.
This is a must read. I pulled some interesting parts out but the report from the Southern Poverty Law Center is quite inflammatory.
Morris Dees, the founder of the SPLC was once a hero of mine. He brought down the Klan with a very innovative strategy of filing civil law suits against them and bankrupting their organization. Dees won a $ 7 million judgment from the Klan for the family of a lynching victim in Alabama and brought down Tom Metzger’s White Aryan Resistance the same way.
What could be more heroic than that?
But now his firm is coming after patriots. Their characterizations of the movement are inaccurate and provocative. This report comes dangerously close to comparing patriots to domestic terrorist, Timothy McVeigh.
I know no one in the patriot movement who carry the beliefs that are found in this report. And to drop blame on talk radio and television commentators and Rep. Michele Bachmann is typical and unacceptable.

They are raging against the machinery of the federal bureaucracy and liberal government programs and policies including health care, reform of immigration and labor laws, abortion, and gay marriage.”

As the [right wing] movement has exploded, so has the reach of its ideas, aided and abetted by commentators and politicians in the ostensible mainstream. While in the 1990s, the movement got good reviews from a few lawmakers and talk-radio hosts, some of its central ideas today are being plugged by people with far larger audiences like FOX News’ Glenn Beck and U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn). Beck, for instance, re-popularized a key Patriot conspiracy theory — the charge that FEMA is secretly running concentration camps — before finally “debunking” it.

Last year also experienced levels of cross-pollination between different sectors of the radical right not seen in years. Nativist activists increasingly adopted the ideas of the Patriots; racist rants against Obama and others coursed through the Patriot movement; and conspiracy theories involving the government appeared in all kinds of right-wing venues. A good example is the upcoming Second Amendment March in Washington, D.C. The website promoting the march is topped by a picture of a colonial militiaman, and key supporters include Larry Pratt, a long-time militia enthusiast with connections to white supremacists, and Richard Mack, a conspiracy-mongering former sheriff associated with the Patriot group Oath Keepers
What may be most noteworthy about the march, however, is its date — April 19. That is the date of the first shots fired at Lexington in the Revolutionary War. And it is also the anniversary of the fiery end of the government siege in Waco and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
“Brace yourselves, because the war with Muslims has just begun,” 31-year-old Faisal Shahzad told a federal judge. “Consider me the first droplet of the blood that will follow.”
