Working out of the funk

Arabian Nights: King of the Black Isles by Maxfield Parrish

I’ve had a week or 2 of “just too much.” Too much information and too many events that are too depressing, too frustrating, too sad that I just had to walk away from it all for a while. There are some things I can’t walk away from, in my personal life. But there are things in the news that make me want to cry or scream at the stupidity and callousness of people.

I hate neglecting my blog and I really hate neglecting the blogs of my fellow bloggers, although I know they understand all too well how we all get overloaded on occasion.

Everyone feels information overload now and then, especially in these days of instant news.

One thing that’s really getting under my skin is all this polling nonsense. I don’t want to see anymore polls about hypotheticals.  I don’t want to see anymore of those “if this person were running” what the outcome would be stats. If they’re not officially in the race, I don’t care. Let them do their own internal polling to decide if they should be in or not. In fact, it’s all too early to judge and we all have our own personal favorites. Intentional or not, this kind of polling news shapes the mood of the country.

I’m tired of the distortions and double standards in the news, primarily from the left. When will someone ask a democrat politician if he disavows Ed Schultz’ slut rant about Laura Ingraham? They ask the same stupid questions of republicans over anything that Rush Limbaugh says, although the worst I’ve ever heard Rush call a liberal woman is a FemiNazi. Why anyone should be expected to condemn the opinions of another is beyond me, but they do it all the time to republicans and conservatives. Why not ask a democat/liberal that same question?

What we see happening in the south with the flooded farmland and the tornado destruction is so heartbreaking. I don’t see the feds or the president in there doing a whole lot to help those people. Just a lot of lip service from TheOne. Most of those people, though would prefer that the feds stay out of their problems. They’d rather take care of themselves and their own. That’s the mentality of Americans in fly-over country. They are the originators of “YES WE CAN do it ourselves and better, thank you very much!”  And they do and will.

/rant over.

You know, I’d rather write about Maxfield Parrish. He’s one of my favorite artists/illustrators. My daughter was born on his 110th birthday.

The most telling question of the year: Pelosi on Jesus’ right to life (w/video)

And she ducked it.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), a Catholic, publicly stated earlier this year that she had a duty to pursue policies “in keeping with the values” of Jesus Christ, the “Word made Flesh.” But at a press briefing last week, when reminded of this statement, Pelosi declined to say when Jesus got the right to life.

“Whenever it was,” said Pelosi, “we bow our heads when we talk about it in church, and that’s where I’d like to talk about that.”

Video on the CNSNews page also which is worth a watch.

She had no problem discussing “The Word” being made flesh last spring, though. Up until the CNSNews reporter sticks it to here in a recent press conference. You might notice too that she never mentions the name of Jesus or invokes God in her little phoney monologue.

What fake reverence and total hypocrisy of this woman.  I cannot believe that her constituents don’t see these same character flaws that we see. But then, look at Rep. Stark and his history.

She is disgusting to watch.

(I love Father Jonathan and never miss him on Fox if I can help it.)

The last 2 minutes of this video, Laura Ingraham discusses Pelosi and her meeting with the Pope and her Catholicism:

This is a very interesting question that I think many Catholics don’t want to face. Did Jesus have a right to life at conception? If you believe that the Holy Spirit came upon Mary (what we Catholics call the Immaculate Conception) then you have to believe that all life begins at conception – not at some arbitrary date in the gestation of the not-yet-born.

Science is improving and making great strides every year. That arbitrary date of a “viable fetus” will change in the future. Babies will be viable earlier and earlier outside the uterus.

These are moral questions that have to be confronted by the individual and not by the government.

They are about to find out how stupid we really are

… Pelosi (D-Calif.) would rely on a procedural sleight of hand: The House would vote on a more popular package of fixes to the Senate bill; under the House rule for that vote, passage would signify that lawmakers “deem” the health-care bill to be passed.

The tactic — known as a “self-executing rule” or a “deem and pass” — has been commonly used, although never to pass legislation as momentous as the $875 billion health-care bill. It is one of three options that Pelosi said she is considering for a late-week House vote, but she added that she prefers it because it would politically protect lawmakers who are reluctant to publicly support the measure.

“It’s more insider and process-oriented than most people want to know,” the speaker said in a roundtable discussion with bloggers Monday. “But I like it,” she said, “because people don’t have to vote on the Senate bill.” Washington Post

So, according to Pelosi, number 1, we are all too stupid to understand or too preoccupied to care what underhanded crap they are doing and number 2, we won’t know who’s voting and how.  Her plan will provide political coverage for pols who would love to vote for her bill but are afraid of the backlash when they get home.

Does Pelosi seriously believe that most people are this stupid? Does she truly believe that most of us won’t know or won’t find out how our representatives have voted? Or that we won’t care how they voted or what “system” they used to pass this bill?

Can these people possibly be more arrogant and condescending toward Americans? At this time in my life, I think there are more informed and educated Americans (who actually will be casting votes in November) than at any other time in our history  since the Revolution (thanks to Beck, Rush, Levin, Hannity, et al.)

And just think about that: Who has inspired Americans to learn and read their own history and the greatest document known to mankind, – beside the Bible of course – the Constitution? It wasn’t a politician or a president. It took talk radio to mobilize us. It’s Laura Ingraham and Glenn Beck who have rallied us awake.

Remember that young mother’s impassioned statement to Arlen Specter? “You have awakened a sleeping giant!” We are awake and they will be our dinner come November.

Pray for the freethinkers this Christmas

It’s awful what we do to these freethinking atheists. They call the holidays an “onslaught,”  imposed on them by Christians.

Watching Laura Ingraham tonight, sitting in for Bill O’Reilly – yippiee, more Laura, please! – and her interview with this Annie Laurie somebody, co-something of this FFRF.org, was entertaining and interesting. Annie kept pushing that this was the winter solstice and “the real reason for the season.” Over and over she said this. And then she said that her kind do not believe in following with blind faith after ancient unprovable celebrations.

Okay. So who celebrated the winter solstice and why? And is this not an ancient celebration? The Druids honored the season and they did so at Stonehenge, several thousand years ago. Lots of ancient civilizations honored and celebrated this day and this season. In fact, when the Christians entered Ireland, they took over this holiday and assimilated it into the Christian holiday in order to more easily win over the hearts and souls of the pagan inhabitants.

There are modern day pagans who consider paganism a religion. And who consider the winter solstice a holiday. They even do drum dances by firelight and exchange gifts. Freethinkers are celebrating the exact same thing.

Aren’t these freethinkers really hypocrites? Aren’t they practicing a kind of religion of their own? Well, I think they are.

The message that there is no God but there is a Santa is another tactic that makes no sense. They insist that they only believe in provable things. Then why is Santa on a billboard? They don’t believe in indoctrinating children (with Christianity) but they are targeting children in this particular billboard!

These people really are a confused bunch.

Add them to your prayers this week. They need them.
