Micheal Medved: New and younger faces in the GOP

from TownHall.com

It’s true that the November elections brought prominent winners in both parties, but the contrast between Democratic and Republican victors is highly revealing.

The biggest Democratic success stories involved re-elected Sens. Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid, and new California governor Jerry Brown – all age 70 or above! The GOP, meanwhile, hailed breakthrough victories for 39-year-old Sen. Marco Rubio in Florida, 43-year old Governor Scott Walker in Wisconsin, 38-year old Governor Nikki Haley in South Carolina, 42-year- old Sen. Kelly Ayotte in New Hampshire, 47-year-old Sen. Rand Paul in Kentucky, and many other youthful candidates bringing fresh, conservative perspectives to high office. Moreover, with Hillary Clinton ruling out a future presidential race, Joe Biden reaching age 74 by 2016, and John Edwards utterly unthinkable, what younger generation Democratic star could plausibly succeed Obama?

The Democrats, in other words, have become a party of shop-worn retreads while the GOP bench is full of next-generation leaders of potential national stature, including Governors Chris Christie of New Jersey, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, Rick Perry of Texas, Mitch Daniels of Indiana, Senators John Thune of South Dakota, Scott Brown of Massachusetts, and many more.

Looking toward the future, the rising stars of the GOP not only look more vibrant and dynamic than the Pelosi/Reid Democrats, they also count as increasingly diverse.

After the recent elections, skeptics can no longer deride the GOP as an all-white party of grumpy old men. Marco Rubio, 39, became the new Senator from Florida while fellow Latino Republicans Bryan Sandoval in Nevada and Susana Martinez in New Mexico became the nation’s only two Hispanic Governors. Jaime Herrera, age 31, captured a Democratic Congressional seat in Washington State, while Raul Labrador did the same in Idaho. Two more Hispanic Republicans– Bill Flores and Quico Canseco—knocked out incumbent Democrats in Texas. In South Carolina, Indian-American Nikki Haley won for Governor while black conservative Tim Scott beat Strom Thurmond’s son (among others) for a Congressional seat. Alan West, an African-American Iraq War hero, trounced an incumbent white Florida Democrat.

In the new Republican House of Representatives, eight members of the GOP majority will proudly qualify for a potential “Republican Hispanic Caucus.” Geraldo Rivera may dismiss such victories as “window dressing,” (as he did recently on Fox News) but they have changed both image and substance of the GOP.

Banning Happy Meals. Need any more proof that these Californians are nuts?

From HotAir.com

My question is again: Why does anyone live or move to California? These people are just frankly out of their minds. But I want them to stay there, because when they start moving out, they bring their totally crazy politics with them. They have dramatically changed the demographics in Nevada politics in the last 25 years and not for the better.

What I have never understood is that they are leaving a state that controls every aspect of their lives and you’d think it’s because government controls every aspect of their lives and yet, they bring those same regulations right along with them and then impose them on their new states neighbors.

Gimme a break and go away or stay away!

Rick Perry said this morning on Fox that this year, over 150 businesses alone have moved to Texas from California. What don’t they get? California is running jobs out of their state with stupid rules and regulations and they keep doing it! It’s no wonder they are broke and jobless there.

Saving California is the biggest waste of money I can think of because it’s nothing more than throwing good money after bad – a little like what the Department of Education has been doing with our tax dollars for decades.

Now that they have banned Happy Meals, and re-elected Jerry Brown, Barbara Boxer et al, we need no further proof that they are all certifiable in that state (except for Jim and those few conservatives down in Orange County.) We need to keep them isolated in their own state asylum and away from doing any damage to the rest of us.

In light of this, you’re going to love this story from the UK Daily Mail (2008):

McDonald’s Happy Meals are to be banned in Liverpool over claims they are contributing to the epidemic of childhood obesity.

The city council is planning to outlaw the meals on the grounds that they are damaging the heath of children – particularly as they offer free toys in order to encourage parents to buy junk food for their children.

The Liberal Democrat-controlled authority claims the credit for taking the lead in the campaign that led to the ban on smoking in public places.

Members of Liverpool City Council’s Childhood Obesity Scrutiny Group (do you love this or what?) want a bye-law that would forbid the sale of fast foot accompanied by toys.

Councillors say the promotional items are used to boost sales through the “Pester Power” phenomenon – children pestering parents for Happy Meal toys. There isn’t a parent in all of Liverpool (and now none in San Fransisco) who has the willpower or the intelligence to say no to their children so the Councillors will do it for them.

Lib Dem councillor Paul Twigger said: “The Scrutiny Group (Good Lord, this is right out of Orwell’s 1984) is recommending that a bye-law be enforced to stop the circulation of free toys associated with junk food promotions.

“We consider it is high time that cash-hungry vultures like McDonald’s are challenged over their marketing policies which are directly aimed at promoting unhealthy eating among children. Attack any semblance of a free market and quash it and while you’re at it, depress job growth, too. That’s a great plan!

“Childhood obesity is a dire threat to the health in this country and it needs to be nipped in the bud urgently.

“Children are directly targeted with junk food and McDonald’s use the Happy Meals to exploit Pester Power of children against which many parents give in. Once again, parents are not capable of being parents so this is another attempt by the government to infantilize adults.

Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. Harry’s still standing. I guess I can’t have everything.

You know, honestly when I realized that Chuck Schumer would likely be the next Majority Leader, it hurt less to see that Harry would still be in the Senate.  And at first, I was disappointed about losing in the Senate until I was educated that it would be better for Conservatives in ’12 if we didn’t have both houses right now. And Pelosi is out!

Half a loaf is better than none.

I was very happy with a lot of the wins. Kirk in Ill, for one, was a great win! Toomey in PA, Marco Rubio and in Ohio, John Kasich for governor are great wins, too.

Of course, CA is a lost cause. A state that keeps Boxer, Waxman and elects Jerry Brown AGAIN, is past hope. Leave those people to their own destruction. If they really believe that Jerry Brown will save them, even a little bit, they are delusional.  CA politics matter a lot to me because those folks leave in waves for Nevada and Arizona and when they do, they change the demographics of the state. Since 1989 when I first moved to Nevada,  it’s become more blue and more democrat leaning due strictly to the CA exodus.  I see that same thing in the southern part of AZ, too.

As for my state: All the ballot initiatives that I voted for, except for legalizing medical marijuana, passed. We will not have card check. We voted against the national health care and won. And affirmative action went down. The marijuana issue was a minor point for me compared to the other ballot questions so I’m not real disappointed.

Governor Brewer won handily. My Congressman, Trent Franks was re-elected just as easily. Both wins are good news. McCain is still standing, which is better than having his democrat opponent in place.

Rasmussen Reports today:

Fifty-eight percent (58%) of these voters say the average Democrat in Congress is more liberal than they are. Only 10% say that member of Congress is more conservative, while 27% see his or her views as about the same as theirs.

Fifty-five percent (55%) say it’s more accurate to describe the political views of most Democrats in Congress as extreme rather than mainstream.

Congress has to make the effort to repeal health care and hold back any more ridiculous spending.

And now we go to work firing Obama in ’12. I’m very optimistic about the next 2 years.

Iranian woman set for execution

Okay, now I’m really pissed off. This morning we read that the UN will be investigating US for human rights violations and tonight I read this at Fox.

What kind of president do we have here who would agree to put this nation  -and Arizona – on this UN review when you consider what’s happening in nations like Iran? What kind of human rights violations occur in this country that compare to stoning a woman, or for that matter, a gay person? Where is the outrage from the bleeding heart left about this poor woman’s impending, state sanctioned  murder?

If you’ve not seen the movie, The Stoning of Soraya M., please do see it. It can be rented at Netflix, among lots of other outlets. This should be required viewing for every friggin liberal in this country and every high school student, too. I had to cover my eyes more than once during this movie. If you think that The Kite Runner was a great view of Islam, then you (and I) were taken for a ride. Until I saw The Stoning of Soraya, and after I’d read The Kite Runner, I had this misconception that Islam might have some redeeming values.

I was misinformed.

These are barbarous people who should not sit at the same table with us. What kind of god or religion sanctions stonings and abuse of women and gays?

What kind of people turn a blind eye to this and keep pointing their fingers at their own countrymen while living in the greatest nation on Earth? We have a president who calls his own citizens enemies while this is occuring almost daily around the world. A president who bows to these barbarians and apologizes for us. A first lady who is more concerned about how many donuts we eat and has  no care in the world for the abuse of young women and gay men. A group of fugly women in NOW who are too busy endorsing misogynistic candidates like Jerry Brown to be bothered with the horrendous deaths of women around the world.

When do we say ENOUGH to all of this?

I’m not sorry for this rant. I’m angry.

Midterm elections and election HiJinx

I’m at the point where I don’t think anything the Dems do will make any difference or if anything they do makes a difference, it won’t be to their benefit. No matter what they do, they’ve lost in this midterm election.

There are a few exceptions and Jerry Brown is one of them. Brown may win because the people who vote in California seem to be pretty nutty and out-vote those few who aren’t. It won’t hurt him very much that he or someone in the room with him called Meg Whitman a whore. In fact, NOW and some other womens organization will be coming out with a big pro-Brown press conference tomorrow in California. There just are more nutcases in California than there are sane, thinking Americans.

Proof positive that Californian nuts outpace the normal ones is the surge for Brown since an illegal alien (Nikki the maid) has been put into legal jeopardy by an unethical attorney (Gloria Allred) in order to cripple Whitman.

On the other hand, the race in New Jersey has turned a corner with the revelation that the Democrat candidate for re-election, John Adler’s own campaign members put up a bogus Tea party candidate to siphon votes from the Republican, Jon Runyan. The NJ TEA party associations have all disavowed this bogus fellow (Peter DeStefano) as one of their own. And Adlers own campaign volunteers have acknowledged that this little dirty trick did in fact occur.

New Jersey is not the only state where Democrats slimy tactics have come into question. There are still allegations that Harry Reid’s campaign put up a phony candidate (Scott Ashjian) under the guise of the TEA party. All Nevada TEA party associations have disavowed this guy as one of their members. As in New Jersey, no Nevadans had ever heard of this guy before this election cycle.

Does anyone really believe that something Christine O’Donnell did as a teenager will really have an impact on how she would represent Delaware today? Virtually no votes will be changed because she had a date with some guy who took her to what I’m sure really was a kegger hideaway for teens. Every town has one of those. We called it Number 9, where I grew up. It was in a little valley by a creek, a few miles out of town. . . but I digress.

Some of these Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot with little help from their challenger, but at great advantage to that challenger:

Great ad, Mrs. McMahon.

Most people have made up their minds by now. A quick look at the low number of undecided voters in nearly all races is evidence of that.  And with early voting open or soon to be open in most states, there isn’t much time to do a lot more damage.

Levin vs Allred: It’s a rout!

Mark Levin from warincontext.org

If you haven’t heard this yet – it’s been all over facebook since last night – here’s your chance to hear Mark shred  celebrity attorney whore, Gloria Allred.

If Jerry Brown wins this election, and the citizens of California blow this chance, they deserve everything that happens in that state. And Allred will have single handedly done it.

American Spectators Jeffery Lord also has a few things to say about this lawyer to lawyer face off.
