Some of the most entertaining days of my life

I owe a big thank you to Weiner for giving me the comic relief I’ve needed. Times are hard for so many of us and the daily (almost hourly) news is not good so, a little Weiner levity has been great. Everyone from Andrew Klavan to Andrew Breitbart provided some great laughs and one liners. I mean seriously, how can you pair any adjective with the name Wiener and it not be funny?

I also owe a thanks to the White House (and Drudge) for publishing the German state dinner menu:

STATE DINNER MENU DONE ON BUDGET:
White House Honey Gastrique
Tuna Tartare with Rye Crisps
Pickled Young Carrots and Mustard Oil
Spring Pea Salad
Shaved Ham and Ginger Snaps
Petite Filet
With Maryland Crab Ravioli
Wild Ramp Puree
Apple Strudel
Golden Raisins and Topfen

I had to Wiki half this menu (or ask Jane who’s a food network fan) because I’m just not a cuisine expert. (She knew what Gastrique is. I thought it might be cow or sheep stomach. HA! Martha Stewart would be slapping me with her rubber spatula for that!)

Crock pot roast beef and baked potatoes is a fancy meal at our house. I have to wonder who’s budget this WH menu was based on. Petite filet (one thing on the menu I know about) is kinda pricey and a once a year treat for me. In fact, as a family tradition, we vote every year about our Christmas dinner and more times than not, we vote for steak (Porterhouse, T-bone or filet) because it’s such a rarity for us. And as a person with an Italian heritage, I can tell you crab ravioli is not something I’m familiar with. But it does sound good.

What is Wild Ramp Puree? It a “bed” of something from West Virginia, I do know that much.

All in all, this is not a menu that is friendly to MY budget. But it was semi-entertaining to discuss and research the menu items.

And again, all this frivolity in the news distracted me from some of the more unpleasant (1/3 of all employees will lose their employer-based health care) and scary (reports that Iran could have nukes in less than 6 months – what’s more scary than that?) news reports. Not that Weiner’s sexy (insert surprised emoticon here) online chat, isn’t news worthy – it is. But it was also the more fun times I’ve had reading online.

The surreal press conference that Weiner called on Monday when Brietbart upstaged him, was the BEST television since the debut of the trampoline bear on the Fox Report. It was stunningly hilarious and at the same time, made me feel proud of being a Breitbart fan. Seeing him at Weiner’s podium calling out the so-called “journalists” for being duplicitous and disingenuous (fancy words for being jerkweeds) was absolutely priceless!

I’ve been online for a long time and one thing I have learned is that there is only one type of man who posts penis pictures of himself: the kind of nerdy, inadequate, trying-to0-hard man that Weiner is. Don’t ask me how I know this because I’m not telling (insert red-faced emoticon here) and I’ve used no tax dollars in this research so I owe no one an explanation.

But in that regard, Weiner and his weiner are pathetic. I almost feel bad about laughing at his online sexcapades because I knew men (boys) like him in high school and college. He has some serious feelings of inadequacy that only his online braggadocio can seem to quash.

Sad.

But on the upside for me at least, we’ve not heard the last of Anthony’s Weinergate.

And okay, I admit it, my life is pretty dull.

I’ll leave you with Andrew Klavan’s description of Weiner – “Physically, he’s a dead ringer for a turtle that’s been pulled out of its shell.”

The Coming of the end – and the 12th Imam. I’ve been waiting to see this:

It will probably be on Glenn Beck today or this week sometime.

We have good reason to be afraid. These people not only believe in the second coming of their Messiah, but they plan to do what they can to speed up his coming, including destroying Israel and Jerusalem. They are willing to die to make it happen.

Stay on long enough and it’s translated into English.

By the way, keep your eyes open near the end for Pelosi, Obama, Bush and others giving the horned hand sign. I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen a picture of any of them doing that — it’s kinda funny if it weren’t so terrifying.

I think it’s time we, as Americans,  find God again. These people are scary serious.

Random thoughts for Monday

These unions get us coming and going. Morning Bell at the Heritage Foundation says that the teacher’s “sick-in” could cost Wisconsin taxpayers up to $6million. A story from MacIver Institute, explains how much these work absences will cost the state, thanks to “doctors” who are signing work excuses to protesters on the picket lines. No one knows how many of these “doctors” are even genuinely licensed.

The unions are doing nothing but alienating public opinion. Those of us in the private sector are watching this and seeing how much these folks will be getting in pensions and we aren’t liking it. And we are liking less, the protesters when they are asked to shoulder a little of the burden that we have had to carry for years. So, I say keep it up. Membership in unions is declining (it’s under 11% of the work force now) and they aren’t doing anything positive for their cause.

~~~ooOoo~~~
I have to ask: how smart is it to take your spring break in Mexico or go hiking along the Iranian border or to sail your yacht along the coast of Somalia? I mean, seriously.
~~~ooOoo~~~

I hope the Republicans who voted with the Democrats on the budget last week have some kind of good explanation for doing so. Some of those defecting to the dark side were Tea Party candidates and all of them ran on budget cuts and repealing ObamaCare, when they were elected last November.  This is highly disappointing. And sure does make me question my faith in the party.

~~~ooOoo~~~
And then there’s this:
For 50 years, Democrats have harbored traitors, lost wars, lost continents to communism, hobnobbed with the nation’s enemies, attacked America’s allies, and counseled retreat and surrender. Or as they call it, ‘foreign policy.’ As Joe McCarthy once said, if liberals were merely stupid, the laws of probability would dictate that at least some of their decisions would serve America’s interests.” –columnist Ann Coulter
But we know that none of their decisions have served America. . .
Iranium the movie – 56 terrifying minutes
This is going to be available for free online viewing for a limited time.  If you have not seen it and have an hour to spare, it’s worth watching.
I held my new grandson and rocked him while I watched this. There are no effective words for how terrifying this is to our future and his. I grew up with the fear of the cold war.  It was nothing as horrific as this could be.
It’s our worst nightmare.
WikiLeaks confirms what everyone has thought
North Korea, currently embroiled in a knife’s edge confrontation with South Korea and the U.S., was able to smuggle 19 advanced, Russian-designed missiles, capable of delivering nuclear payloads, to Iran, according to a Feb. 24, 2010, cable detailing a meeting between Russian officials and a State Department nonproliferation expert. The shipment of some R-27 components was widely known in intelligence circles, but the WikiLeaks disclosures represent the first confirmation that Iran now possess complete missile systems.
Does this surprise anyone? Does it shock us that Iran is now capable of hitting Europe with missiles? It doesn’t surprise me. Is anyone surprised that Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, as well as Israel, has been begging us to take out Iran’s nuclear capabilities?
None of this stuff is earthshaking news. I am surprised that Silvio Berlusconi is palling around with Putin and I have to wonder what the pay-off for them both might be. Members of the EU should be wondering that, too.
Quote of the day – Charles Krauthammer
The worst thing about this [START]  treaty, however, is that it is simply a distraction. It gives the illusion of doing something about nuclear danger by addressing a non-problem, Russia, while doing nothing about the real problem – Iran and North Korea. The utter irrelevance of New START to nuclear safety was dramatically underscored last week by the revelation of that North Korean uranium enrichment plant, built with such sophistication that it left the former head of the Los Alamos National Laboratory “stunned.” It could become the ultimate proliferation factory. Pyongyang is already a serial proliferator. It has nothing else to sell. Iran, Syria and al-Qaeda have the money to buy.
The Washington Post
Obama’s dream of a nuclear free world is naive and childish. Why he’s called the man-child president, I suppose.
It’s like the old bumper sticker – “when they outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have them.”  This is no different except for the power of the weapon.
We’ll disarm and set an example for — who? The Iranians or the North Koreans? Hugo Chavez? And we all know that this is the ultimate Chavez dream. These are the true nuclear threats. As Krauthammer says: who lays awake nights worrying about what the Brits are doing with their nukes? We worry about the rogue nutcases out there.  And no matter what we do, they are not going to disarm – not one iota.
But this is the typical leftist utopian fantasy: a world free of nuclear weapons  – oh, and also polar bears hugging us in our driveways.
Iranian woman set for execution
Okay, now I’m really pissed off. This morning we read that the UN will be investigating US for human rights violations and tonight I read this at Fox.
What kind of president do we have here who would agree to put this nation  -and Arizona – on this UN review when you consider what’s happening in nations like Iran? What kind of human rights violations occur in this country that compare to stoning a woman, or for that matter, a gay person? Where is the outrage from the bleeding heart left about this poor woman’s impending, state sanctioned  murder?
If you’ve not seen the movie, The Stoning of Soraya M., please do see it. It can be rented at Netflix, among lots of other outlets. This should be required viewing for every friggin liberal in this country and every high school student, too. I had to cover my eyes more than once during this movie. If you think that The Kite Runner was a great view of Islam, then you (and I) were taken for a ride. Until I saw The Stoning of Soraya, and after I’d read The Kite Runner, I had this misconception that Islam might have some redeeming values.
I was misinformed.
These are barbarous people who should not sit at the same table with us. What kind of god or religion sanctions stonings and abuse of women and gays?
What kind of people turn a blind eye to this and keep pointing their fingers at their own countrymen while living in the greatest nation on Earth? We have a president who calls his own citizens enemies while this is occuring almost daily around the world. A president who bows to these barbarians and apologizes for us. A first lady who is more concerned about how many donuts we eat and has  no care in the world for the abuse of young women and gay men. A group of fugly women in NOW who are too busy endorsing misogynistic candidates like Jerry Brown to be bothered with the horrendous deaths of women around the world.
When do we say ENOUGH to all of this?
I’m not sorry for this rant. I’m angry.
Muslims in America – a double standard fueled by fear
What would be the response by the Hollywood snobs and the Muslim apologists in the country or even just average working Americans, if Pope Benedict called for the murder and beheading of people the Church felt are in opposition its theology?
Imagine the United States Council of Catholic Bishops issuing a its own form of “fatwa” against people who they thought were Muslim terrorists or Islamic heads of state like Iran’s Ahmadinejad. When was the last time the College of Cardinals called for the stoning of homosexuals?
How about the Catholic Church demanding that every classroom provide a holy water font at each doorway, like the foot baths that have been required at federally funded universities and now even, airports?  Institutions of higher learning from NYU to Indiana and financed by tax dollars, are now providing foot baths for Muslim students. The Kansas City airport (again, tax payer funded) has already installed these religious foot fonts in several airport restrooms.
from BareNakedIslam.com
This from Bare Naked Islam in 2009:
Minneapolis Community and Technical College has a policy that “strictly prohibits religious displays.” For example, this past Christmas season a memo from Dianna Cusick, director of legal affairs and President Phil Davis, warned against any public display of holiday cheer: “As we head into the holiday season, all public offices and areas should refrain from displays that may represent to our students, employees or the public that the college is promoting any particular religion.”
Nevertheless, the college is planning to use taxpayer funds to install facilities for Muslim ritual foot-washing. School officials are going on a junket to visit a community college in Illinois to view similar facilities there.
Davis justified the disparate treatment by pointing out the differences between Muslims and those of other faiths. “The foot-washing facilities are not about religion, they are about public safety,” Davis said. “Christians and Jews aren’t going to kill anyone over this issue. Muslims are different. We’ve already received threats saying the college will be bombed if we refuse to build this facility. So, as anyone can see, we’re not promoting the Muslim religion. We’re saving the lives of our students and faculty.”AZ CONSERVATIVE
Yes, he’s right. Christians and Jews don’t threaten destruction when WalMart tells its employees to only say “Happy Holidays” to customers. They aren’t threatening to bomb town hall when the Nativity scene or the Menorah is banned from its lawns. Imagine  the Rev. Billy Graham calling for the death of Larry David (a Jew, by the way) who peed on a picture of Jesus (ala fatwas of cartoonists who drew Muhammad) in one of his more controversial episodes of HBOs “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
Of course, the argument from the left is that these baths are available to anyone of any faith (or none) that want to use them. This is the ACLUs stance.
They also claim that foot baths are a health and safety measure: one student fell in a public bathroom while attempting to wash her feet in the sink, something ALL of us do at least 5 times a day.
Quote of the day – Daniel Henninger
We ought to be a lot prouder of our troops coming home from Iraq than we are showing this week. They deserve a monument. That war wasn’t just about helping Iraq. It was about us. The march across the nuclear threshold by lunatic regimes is a clear and present danger. The sacrifice made by the United States in Iraq took one of these nuclear-obsessed madmen [Saddam Hussein] off the table and gave the world more margin to deal with the threat that remains, if the world’s leadership is up to it. A big if.   Daniel Henninger/WSJ
