Important stuff they don’t teach you in school

William Whipple, from New Hampshire,  was an original signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was a merchant, a judge, a Revolutionary War General and a member of the Continental Congress.

from Yahoo.com: Whipple freed his slave, Prince Whipple, who had fought with him in the war and was one of a group of slaves who had petitioned the Legislature for their freedom. Prince Whipple also is buried in the Old North Cemetery.

We had a responsibility to act… SO???

According to who? And why?

Why do we have a responsibility to act in Libya and not in Syria? Why do we have a responsibility to act at all, in the Middle East (short of helping our only real ally, Israel)?

Oh, I remember now – we need the oil. Our allies need the oil. Where are all those anti-war protestors that screamed “no blood for oil” during the Bush years? What’s happened to the stupid Cindy Sheehan?

Okay, now this conservative is screaming it: No blood for oil! Bring our soldiers home!

I could NOT care less about muslims killing muslims. And I don’t want our soldiers sacrificed to protect them from each other. When they are done killing each other, they’ll be back to killing us.

This Libya thing is about civil war – a power struggle – and oil.

If we are arming ONE Al Qaeda member, that’s one too many. If we are aiding one, it’s one too many. None of us have forgotten who attacked us on 9/11. I’m sure there are a lot of liberals in this country who have, including it seems, TheOne, but the majority of us, regular Americans, have not forgotten.

The Libyans are  tribes, who mostly still live in a stone age with cell phones and modern weapons. They don’t care about or understand western democracy. They aren’t fighting for “freedom.” Who’s kidding who? They are fighting for power and control. And the ones who win (most likely it will be Al Qaeda) won’t be our pals. They’ll be very rich – oil rich – enemies.

Wake up, America! they won’t like us any better than they did on 9/11 or 2 days ago. A no-fly zone and air cover is not going to change that and the president just can’t seem to “get it.” They may have the same color politics – Obama and the muslims – but that’s where it ends.

And while we’re on the subject of a “responsibility to act” – what about the Christians in Ethiopia who recently were terrorized, killed and had their churches burned down? What about the Christians in Afghanistan who are being terrorized and killed? What about the outrage for a family in Israel that was murdered in their sleep?

WHERE IS THAT DAMNED OUTRAGE, MISTER PRESIDENT? WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT ”RESPONSIBLITY TO ACT?”

Loosing our rights and freedom of choice

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of a what a particular group thinks it ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.  Milton Friedman

And this is the problem in our country now. We have a ruling class that thinks we “ought to want” toxic, curly fry light bulbs, for instance. (I wish I’d thought of that mercury light bulb description first, but credit goes to Mark Steyn.)  How dare we want to buy what we want? How could we possibly know what’s best for us or what we can afford or what we want to afford? We aren’t smart enough to choose for ourselves. All options are taken away for the greater good, because they know what the greater good is. Only they know what’s best for you and me.

They are attempting to take away our freedom of choice – unless it’s the life of an unborn baby, and then everyone has that right to choose death over life. Isn’t it amazing how important choice is to these statists until it comes to the type of shower head in your bathroom or the kind of car you drive?

It’s nothing more than a total disdain for everyone’s freedom but their own. And the only individuals they respect are themselves.

A Christmas message from Bill Whittle

LaHood to push for disabling cell phones in cars

I wrote last year about Ray LaHoods desire to “coerce Americans out of” their cars. His plan is to make driving as uncomfortable, inconvenient and expensive as possible.

So now he wants to prevent the use of cell phones in cars due to the “distraction” factor. He says the technology is out there to disable phones in cars. I keep asking myself, is this what the progressive left really want? Do all those college students who support the Obama agenda really want to give up their phones?

And where do distractions in cars end? How many parents will be leaving their kids at home because the “Mom! he’s looking at me again!” screeches from the backseat are a distraction?  How about a bottle of water while you’re driving, not to mention a burger and fries? Or God forbid – a cigarette!!!I don’t want my family out on the highway without a cell phone. Hell, I don’t want to be out on the highway without mine.

Where does it end? At $10/gallon gas? Not only will that “coerce” us out of our cars but out of the grocery store and malls, too. Which in turn, means job loss to millions more.

A year ago LaHood was talking about chips in cars that would monitor gas consumption which would then be taxed as part of the carbon footprints BS, which in turn would be part of crap-n-tax that the EPA will be trying to enforce on us, all the while walking around congress.

Oh, what a tangled web they weave . . .Non-elected officials writing laws that will dramatically and fundamentally change our lives and our nation.

It’s all about protecting us right out of our jobs, our healthcare, all our civil liberties in what has become an obscene desire to control every aspect of our lives, by the ruling class. They know better than the rest of us how to spend our money and what’s best for our health and welfare. How many rights will be enough? When do we finally say enough?

2 years of this has been scary. Another term with this regime will mark the end of America as we’ve known and loved it.

Banning Happy Meals. Need any more proof that these Californians are nuts?

From HotAir.com

My question is again: Why does anyone live or move to California? These people are just frankly out of their minds. But I want them to stay there, because when they start moving out, they bring their totally crazy politics with them. They have dramatically changed the demographics in Nevada politics in the last 25 years and not for the better.

What I have never understood is that they are leaving a state that controls every aspect of their lives and you’d think it’s because government controls every aspect of their lives and yet, they bring those same regulations right along with them and then impose them on their new states neighbors.

Gimme a break and go away or stay away!

Rick Perry said this morning on Fox that this year, over 150 businesses alone have moved to Texas from California. What don’t they get? California is running jobs out of their state with stupid rules and regulations and they keep doing it! It’s no wonder they are broke and jobless there.

Saving California is the biggest waste of money I can think of because it’s nothing more than throwing good money after bad – a little like what the Department of Education has been doing with our tax dollars for decades.

Now that they have banned Happy Meals, and re-elected Jerry Brown, Barbara Boxer et al, we need no further proof that they are all certifiable in that state (except for Jim and those few conservatives down in Orange County.) We need to keep them isolated in their own state asylum and away from doing any damage to the rest of us.

In light of this, you’re going to love this story from the UK Daily Mail (2008):

McDonald’s Happy Meals are to be banned in Liverpool over claims they are contributing to the epidemic of childhood obesity.

The city council is planning to outlaw the meals on the grounds that they are damaging the heath of children – particularly as they offer free toys in order to encourage parents to buy junk food for their children.

The Liberal Democrat-controlled authority claims the credit for taking the lead in the campaign that led to the ban on smoking in public places.

Members of Liverpool City Council’s Childhood Obesity Scrutiny Group (do you love this or what?) want a bye-law that would forbid the sale of fast foot accompanied by toys.

Councillors say the promotional items are used to boost sales through the “Pester Power” phenomenon – children pestering parents for Happy Meal toys. There isn’t a parent in all of Liverpool (and now none in San Fransisco) who has the willpower or the intelligence to say no to their children so the Councillors will do it for them.

Lib Dem councillor Paul Twigger said: “The Scrutiny Group (Good Lord, this is right out of Orwell’s 1984) is recommending that a bye-law be enforced to stop the circulation of free toys associated with junk food promotions.

“We consider it is high time that cash-hungry vultures like McDonald’s are challenged over their marketing policies which are directly aimed at promoting unhealthy eating among children. Attack any semblance of a free market and quash it and while you’re at it, depress job growth, too. That’s a great plan!

“Childhood obesity is a dire threat to the health in this country and it needs to be nipped in the bud urgently.

“Children are directly targeted with junk food and McDonald’s use the Happy Meals to exploit Pester Power of children against which many parents give in. Once again, parents are not capable of being parents so this is another attempt by the government to infantilize adults.

Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. C.S. Lewis

Quote of the day – Mark Levin

Failure is not the product of [the Statists] beliefs but merely want of power and resources. Thus are born endless rationalizations for seizing ever more governmental authority. Mark Levin/Liberty and Tyranny

And “thus are born more rationalizations” for enslaving the citizens by over taxation. If the school systems aren’t working – Let’s throw more money at it. If the war on drugs isn’t working – Let’s throw more money at it.

Statists will never admit that a system or a program just isn’t working. That would be admission of failure and they DO NOT FAIL.

Obama Zombies – another choice read from Roxanne’s book club

“What Obama Zombies need to understand is that social justice is a euphemism for socialism; respecting property is the real justice, not what some college kid or Washington bureaucrat thinks is unfair. What’s interesting is that liberals are all for “spreading the wealth around” except when it’s their own.”

Jason Mattera/Obama Zombies

This book is witty and funny. It’s also sad that so many idealistic kids were duped and used by the Obama machine. Mattera tells the tale of how the campaign used Facebook, Twitter and cell phones to take over the youth vote. It’s a fascinating read and I bought it with the intent that my kids read it – after I do, of course.
