Las Vegas Mayor will give Obama the boot; Palin to kick off Tea Party Express in Reid’s hometown!
Sherman Frederick/Las Vegas Review-Journal
Sen. Harry Reid called President Barack Obama today to protest his use of Las Vegas in a negative way.
Good for Harry, save for one thing — his call did no good.
The president wrote back this: “I hope you know that during my Town Hall today, I wasn’t saying anything negative about Las Vegas. I was making the simple point that families use vacation dollars, not college tuition money, to have fun. There is no place better to have fun than Vegas, one of our country’s great destinations. I have always enjoyed my visits, look forward to visiting in a few weeks, and hope folks will visit in record numbers this year.”
What kind of stupid does he think Nevadans are?
No apology … just this strange note. I hope Harry writes him back an absolutely scathing letter. I’d start out like this:
“Dear Mr. President,
“In light of your failure to understand how much damage you have done to the Nevada economy, it would be best if you cancel your upcoming visit to Las Vegas. If you don’t, don’t expect any public official to stand with you on any stage here — and that starts with me!”
Think Harry’s got the eggs for that? I hope so because, gawd, Las Vegas could use a little backbone out of our so-called most powerful politician ever.
This city is ground zero for the recession and Washington has not been very friendly lately. Maybe a full-on, four-letter-word note to Mr. I-Can-Do-No-Wrong President will jerk him back to the reality of a city at 13% unemployment.
Like a typical Marxist, Obama throws people off the ship when he no longer needs them but union members in Las Vegas haven’t yet figured that out. These people came out en masse for this guy, organized to the hilt for him and this is how he repays them? These folks are trying to feed families on cabby wages and tips. They are the hotel housekeepers and casino dealers, construction workers and valets who all depend on tourism for their livelihood, directly or indirectly and who came out and elected this lame president. He repays them by denigrating their city… again.
Harry Milquetoast Reid’s weak response – Mr. President, you really should stop picking on Las Vegas – doesn’t cut it, either. But who expects more from this lap dog?
Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, who led the chorus of criticism last year when Obama warned against Las Vegas visits “on the taxpayers’ dime,” took his outrage a step further during a hastily arranged news conference at City Hall.
“An apology won’t be acceptable this time,” said Goodman, who changed his political affiliation from Democrat to nonpartisan in December as he pondered a bid for governor. “I want to assure you when he comes I will do everything I can to give him the boot back to Washington and to visit his failures back there.”
Goodman raised his voice repeatedly… [Oscar Goodman, mayor and former mob lawyer – only in Las Vegas – dontcha love it?]
Dean Heller, R-Nev., said, “At the same time the President tells people not to come to Las Vegas, he has no problems coming to our state to raise money.”
No problem whatsoever. I remember how they organized – and voted inside the casinos – to get out the vote for him and NOT Hillary, in the primaries.
I love Las Vegas and Nevada and it will always be home to me. I take his comments as a slap in the face and I hope that his beloved unions will eventually wake up and see that they too, are being slapped around by their idol.
And it might help Sen. Reid by allowing him to show Nevada voters he is willing to stand up to the president.
“This kind of separates Sen. Reid a little bit and shows he is supportive of his home state first and foremost,” she [Democratic consultant Ronni Council] said.
I’m so doubting that. His poll numbers are in the shitter out here. I have a feeling that Harry is dying right now, this is the last thing he needs. And it’s getting too late for CPR.
It’s unknown whether Obama, when he visits Las Vegas about Feb. 18, will participate in any campaign events to benefit Reid, who’s in a tough re-election battle.
Judging by Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts, Obama’s record at campaigning for fellow dems, sucks. I think I’d rather he stay away if I were running for something.
Council also said the fact Obama mentions Las Vegas in his speeches reinforces the desert destination as a top national getaway, even if it comes with a little scolding from an authority figure.
“Every time he says something negative about us we probably get more people who want to come here,” she said.
That’s not how Las Vegas boosters and gambling and convention industry officials viewed Obama’s first Las Vegas remark, delivered in February 2009 during a speech at a recreational vehicle factory.
I beg to differ with this democrat hack. It was reported that after Obama’s remarks last year, Las Vegas lost $400 million in tourist and convention dollars.
“You can’t take a trip to Las Vegas or down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers’ dime,” Obama said in a remark aimed at bailout-accepting bankers who had been accused of cavorting in Las Vegas as their companies collapsed.
But executives from Las Vegas’ biggest resort companies said the remark scared off business. The banking firm Goldman Sachs bailed out of a Las Vegas event to escape the perception of wasteful spending only to reschedule in San Francisco, a more expensive destination.
I’m anxious to see how he will be received when he comes to Vegas in the next couple weeks. Maybe I’ll try to be in the city that day.
But the best news of the day, also from today’s R-J:

Sarah Palin, who has achieved rock star status among conservative Republicans, is coming to Sen. Harry Reid’s hometown.
She’ll be in Searchlight March 27 to launch a Tea Party Express cross-country bus tour that ends in Washington, D.C., on April 15 – Tax Day – after stopping in 42 cities along way, according to organizers.
Palin, the former Alaska governor and Republican John McCain’s vice presidential running mate in 2008, will help step up the Tea Party activists’ campaign to unseat Democrats and GOP incumbents who don’t adhere to the conservatives’ agenda of less spending, less taxes and less government. The Tea Party movement also is backing newcomer candidates who see things their way as well.

The hottest spot in Searchlight - Terrible Herbst's gas station/McDonalds/Casino. I can recommend this as a good, clean bathroom pit stop.
“We’re really excited,” Levi Russell, a Tea Party Express spokesman, said in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We knew the Searchlight kick off was going to be big with all the conservative candidates runnng against Reid there to make this a referendum on Reid. But Sarah Palin has greatly magnified that.”
The confirmed GOP primary candidates seeking Reid’s seat include Sue Lowden, Danny Tarkanian and Sharron Angle, Russell said.
Sen. Reid responded to Palin with a bring it on invitation: “Make sure you stop by the Nugget for a ten-cent cup of coffee with free refills – and make sure to say “hi” to Verlie,” Reid said in a statement.
Reid grew up in Searchlight, a small mining town about 60 miles south of Las Vegas. He’s seeking a fifth term but he’s running behind his potential GOP opponents in early polls. And the national Republican Party is targeting him for ouster because, as Senate majority leader, he has led the unpopular effort to reform health care and do Obama’s bidding on Capitol Hill.
Palin is delivering the keynote address at the National Tea Party Convention this weekend in Nashville, Tenn.
The Tea Party organizers are hoping for big crowds in Searchlight, but even larger crowds in Washington, D.C. – hundreds of thousands, like the Sept. 12 rally last year, according to Russell.
The Tea Party movement of anti-tax and anti-big government conservatives formed last year and has grown larger and more popular across the country as voters have become disenchanted with Washington politics – even with mainline Republicans on Capitol HIll but especially with Democratic President Barack Obama and the Democrats who control both houses of Congress.
I’m not working that day and I WILL be in Searchlight – a mere 70 miles from me – to see Sarah and see this express kick off to a roaring start! I’ll take pictures, too!
~~~~ooOoo~~~~
Have Obama’s image handlers been on vacation, too?
Great column here about how Obama’s image makers and news shapers have been falling down on the job in the last 2 weeks.
And as Vicki writes here, the images that the White House is putting out are less than flattering. Smug-down-his-nose pictures of Obama with Biden, an empty oval office… what’s the message being sent to the American people? This whole year has been about image from the WH. What’s happened to Axelrod?
The One’s on television 3 times a day but let someone try to blow up a plane over Detroit and he’s mousy mum for 4 days! Does he not think that the American people needed to hear some reassurance after this Christmas day terrorist attack? That we needed to know that the LEADER was on top of this?
Make no mistake about it: the bomb may not have gone off but the attack was successful, just the same. We are scared, we are off balance, we are confused and we were surprised. And the president has been golfing and snorkeling and dining in a $4000/night estate. We have over 10% unemployment and he’s vacationing like this?
Again, it’s about image and lack of attention to it. The real Obama seems to be emerging.
(Updated) Kevin Jennings needs to make a Van Jones exit
Eleven installments and still practically no one outside BigGovernment is even touching this story!
The suggested reading materials that Jennings approved for children is beyond inappropriate and if any one else were providing it to minors, they’d be in jail.
A lot of the information in this stuff was unknown to me until I was nearly 40 years old. These kids are being exposed to information, instructions and illustrations that is blatantly pornographic and way beyond their years. And Kevin Jennings approved all of it! His creepy fingerprints are all over this.
I’ve contacted my senators and congressman, even though they have no jurisdiction over these presidential appointments. I will be contacting Arnie Duncan and TheOne.
Jennings needs to creep out of Washington, under the cover of night like Jones did.
He’s a disgrace.
GrassRoots Nation is circulating a petition to have Jennings removed.
The Times keep getting it wrong or too lazy to get it right
In an effort to embarrass itself but one more time, the NYTs has announced it will name an unnamed editor to monitor opinion. That person will be monitoring Fox News, sites like BigGovernment.com and other outlets, for… news…
Do I need to spell this out further or do you get it?
Most people are smart enough to get it. If you’re the minority who doesn’t get it, move on to another blog and don’t bother with mine… k?
Now that I’ve gotten that point out of the way, you will find this from Investor’s Business Daily, an interesting read.
ACORN Watch: A “Sting”-ing Indictment of Media Hypocrisy
by Michelle Malkin/Townhall.com
Undercover journalism is only acceptable when it fits a liberal agenda. That is the message from “professional” reporters and left-wing activists outraged about three successful video stings targeting President Obama’s old friends at the left-wing tax-subsidized outfit ACORN.
Conservative documentarian James O’Keefe and writer Hannah Giles, working for the BigGovernment.com website, posed as a pimp and prostitute during visits to ACORN offices in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Brooklyn. ACORN housing officials and tax advisers offered them brazen suggestions on how to lie on their applications, disguise their income, obscure their child sex-ring business and hide cash from abusive johns. (“When you buy the house with the backyard, you get a tin,” an ACORN counselor in New York told Giles, “and you bury it down in there, cover it and put the grass over it.”)
Summing up the ACORN Housing Corporation philosophy, another Brooklyn ACORN official told the undercover pair bluntly: “Honesty is not going to get you the house.”
ACORN spokesman Scott Levenson blasted the investigation as “gotcha journalism.” Echoing ACORN’s defenders, MSNBC anchor Norah O’Donnell fretted on Tuesday that Giles and O’Keefe’s methods “might be viewed as entrapment. That some conservative activists used hidden cameras to get this stuff on camera.”
O’Donnell has apparently forgotten the inglorious history of news “entrapment” by her betters at NBC News.
This is the network that surreptitiously rigged GM pickup trucks in staged crash tests in 1993 to show that the vehicles were unsafe — and failed to inform viewers that the simulations used incendiary devices to ignite the explosions. Jane Pauley admitted in a nationally televised apology that “NBC’s contractor did put incendiary devices under the trucks to ensure there would be a fire if gasoline were released from the gas tank. NBC personnel knew this before we aired the program, but the public was not informed because consultants at the scene told us the devices did not start the fire. We agree with GM that we should have told the viewer about these devices.”
This is the network that pioneered the “To Catch a Predator” series — an investigative sting operation to nab Internet pedophiles. Until last year, the journalists worked with activist group Perverted Justice, whose members posed as children in web chat rooms to lure alleged pedophiles to a residential home.
This is the network that sent out an intrepid NBC News reporter in a canoe to cover treacherous New Jersey flooding in 2005 — only to be shown up by passers-by who sloshed in front of the camera and demonstrated that the water was only a few inches deep.
This is the network that tried to arrange Islamophobia stings at NASCAR events in 2006 to try to “expose” racism among Southerners. The network worked with a Muslim activist who sent a recruitment notice across the Internet:
“I have been talking with a producer of the NBC Dateline show, and he is in the process of filming a piece on anti-Muslim and anti-Arab discrimination in the USA. They are looking for some Muslim male candidates for their show who would be willing to go to non-Muslim gatherings and see if they attract any discriminatory comments or actions while being filmed. … NBC is willing to fly in someone and cover their weekend expenses. The filming would take place all day on Saturday and Sunday.”
The same sting tactics were adopted by ABC News’ Primetime Live news show in Alabama and Texas.
“Professional” undercover journalists see their work as serving the public and national interests, exposing wrongdoing, and blowing the whistle on illicit activities that would not otherwise see the light of day. But this is exactly what the ACORN stings have done.
Taxpayers deserve to know how ACORN and its vast web of nonprofit, tax-exempt affiliates are using their money (40 percent of the group’s revenue comes from the government). The flagship group trains publicly funded ACORN tax advisers and mortgage counselors across the country. In fact, ACORN is now managing apartments in Bedford-Stuyvesant, N.Y., for the newly completed Atlantic Avenue Apartments. Yet, ACORN Housing Corporation has a long history of abusing federal housing funds and AmeriCorps grants for political activities.
Head-in-the-sand ABC News anchor Charles Gibson claimed he “didn’t know” about the ACORN scandal this week and snarked that “maybe this is just one you leave to the cables.”
Giles and O’Keefe’s investigations (and there are more to come, according to BigGovernment.com’s Andrew Breitbart) have exposed not one but two protection rackets: ACORN’s — and the ostrich media’s.
UPDATE: ACORN organizer rips video
SAN BERNARDINO – The head organizer for California ACORN says a new video that appears to show a staffer at the organization’s San Bernardino office is fake journalism.
The video, which was posted shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday on a Web site called Big Government.com, shows a female ACORN employee talking to a man who claims to be a pimp interested in establishing a brothel where underage immigrant prostitutes would turn tricks in order to raise money for political activity.
The woman, identified on the video as Tresa Kaelke, appears on posted footage to be interested in cooperating the plan. However, California ACORN head organizer Amy Schur said the video is a gross misrepresentation of what actually happened.
“In this video, there are two actors who come into our office and who were messing with us. And our employee was messing with them,” Schur said.
She said that the complete and unedited video needs to be released to the public.
Schur said that in a moment not shown on the edited video, Kaelke asked the undercover “pimp” if he was joking and then proceeded to play along with the joke.
Furthermore, Schur said that Kaelke will sign an affidavit stating that she was not seriously entertaining the idea of cooperating with an apparent attempt to establish a house of prostitution.
“She (Kaelke) asked if they were joking and asked if they were reporters. They said they weren’t reporters and they aren’t. This is not legitimate news,” Schur said.
Schur’s statements follow comments from ACORN office supervisor Christina Spach, who said Kaelke was afraid of the “pimp” and “prostitute” who broached the prostitution ploy at ACORN’s San Bernardino office.
The Big Government.com video identifies the “pimp” as James O’Keefe and the “prostitute” as Hannah Giles. O’Keefe and Giles could not be reached immediately for comment.
“You guys are going after the lowest common denominators here, people that have been arrested for drug and prostitution, expecting them to know any better than to give advice on what they know?
I do not disagree that they should be better with their hiring practices, but c’mon, you think that lady in that video knows any better.” poster at BigGovernment.com
*****
I don’t get it. This person is not the least bit credible. What’s the point? In the other video you found one corrupt accountant. Good job and I hope that person gets fired, but should we shut down every company or organization that has a single accountant that ever shushes a client? There’d be nowhere to get your taxes done.
There’s corruption in everything. It’s human nature. Good on you for revealing some of this corruption but stop pretending you’re connecting the dots in some vast conspiracy. Shutting down community organizations over isolated corruption (or maybe its just some prostitute running her mouth) makes as much sense as shutting down the stock market because of Bernie Madoff…. Or maybe Madoff is connected to ACORN. I’ll bet the Freemasons have something to do with it. Look! An acorn on the dollar bill!!! poster at BigGovernment.com
My God…
How much more will it take before someone who can, (besides these 2 great and courageous kids) do SOMETHING?
This requires an INDEPENDENT investigation. Holder won’t do it and I’m sure Obama won’t call for him to.
What kind of people would not bat an eye at the suggestion of child sexploitation and would in fact, be eager to offer assistance in this kind of behavior? What kind of people (like the posters quoted above) would excuse it? No one even mentions murder or threats of murder.
I’m stunned and sickened by this whole thing. As Beck asked today, where is the decency and honor – not just in congress – but among some of the posters I’ve read at that site today? I suggest that people reflect the leadership they have.
And that explains to me, why we have the president and the congress we have. But I refuse to believe that we are this immoral, this uncaring, this accepting of criminal behaviors.
