I think it’s very telling the Church waited until now to take their First Amendment, religious freedom case to court. The SCOTUS is about a month away from releasing their decision on ObamaCare.
The suits filed by the Catholic organizations focus on the regulation that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced last August and finalized in January that requires virtually all health-care plans in the United States to cover sterilizations and all Food and Drug Administration-approved contraceptives, including those that can cause abortions.
The Catholic Church teaches that sterilization, artificial contraception and abortion are morally wrong and that Catholics should not be involved in them. Thus, the regulation would require faithful Catholics and Catholic organizations to act against their consciences and violate the teachings of their faith. CNSNEWS.com
Just for the record, here’s the religious makeup (according to Wikipedia) of the SC:
Chief Justice John Roberts – Roman Catholic
Justice Clarence Thomas – Roman Catholic
Justice Sam Alito – Roman Catholic
Justice Sonya Sotomayor – Roman Catholic
Justice Antonin Scalia – Roman Catholic
Justice Anthony Kennedy – Roman Catholic
Justice Stephen Breyer – Jewish
Justice Ruth Ginsberg – Jewish
Justice Elena Kagan – Jewish
I’m not inferring that the Church is trying to pressure the Catholic justices in their decision on ObamaCare. But I do think that the Church is counting on the justices to see the violation of religious freedom in this fiasco of a law. This case is not about a woman’s right to contraception or abortion. It’s about the Church’s and the individual’s right to refuse to PAY FOR IT. As a taxpayer, I’m already being forced to pay for this and it’s against my conscience and my church. Now they are trying to slap us in the face with the bill!
While I’m on the subject of ObamaCare, I think it’s time that Sebelius is excommunicated and Obama is impeached. She is violating the core doctrine of the Church and he is violating his oath to uphold the Constitution.
