[I]t’s odd that they [atheists] will condemn politicians like Bachmann for bringing God into a political discussion, yet they throw their support behind leaders like President Barack Obama, a Christian who says that he is opposed to gay marriage because “God is in the mix”. (A weak attempt at making his Christianity sound cool).
Hmm, Michele Bachmann is crazy for thinking that there is a God who backs her political agenda but President Obama is just fine even though he’s against letting consenting adults who love each other marry because the same God says no?
Why is it that so many atheists who feel that anyone who believes in God is delusional and should seek help support leaders like President Obama? If believing in God is a sign of mental illness, would you really want a man who is suffering from this delusion to have a nuclear arsenal at his disposal?
One reason is that, like many Republicans, they don’t really believe that Obama is a Christian. Not surprising, considering that this is the man who said that guns and God were something for bitter, small town Americans to fall back on when he said that “they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them.” – Daniel James Hayden IV

I think the reason why atheists support a lukewarm Christian like Obama is because they know there’s no chance in this country of someone who’s openly not religious winning the presidency. I was quietly hoping as I supported him that he really wasn’t religious, but I knew he wouldn’t be silly enough to state so out loud.
September 4th, 2011 at 8:36 AM
I agree with the author of the article I posted: Obama is not a Christian – lukewarm or otherwise. So your wish that he “really wasn’t religious” is true and you and others like you, got what you were hoping for.
I’ve never believed he was a Muslim. But I’ve often doubted that he was “anything.” Now I no longer doubt.
I also think it’s very hypocritical and cynical of anyone who did support him after he sat in a “Christian” church (if you can call Rev. Wright and his church Christian) for 20 years and he did that only for votes.
Did you get that? He did it only to get votes and to be in the “right” circle of people who would advance his political aspirations.
That’s the worst dishonesty and worst of politics and a politician in modern history.

Good Morning Roxannadanna, I am going to re-post this over at the Village of the Banned. The points you make here are just great.

Thanks Sami! Appreciate that a lot!

Keep in mind where Obama made that statement about God and guns.
California.
He would never dare to say that where I live.
September 3rd, 2011 at 8:41 AM
He also thought he was among friends, no press and didn’t think he was being taped.
Ha!
September 2nd, 2011 at 6:34 AM
Now where did my comment go?
September 2nd, 2011 at 6:35 AM
Never mind. There it is, Duh

I love it Roxanna, great find. I am always amazed at atheist who don’t believe there is a God and yet spend their time criticizing people who do. If you don’t believe in God why should you care if anyone else does. Is it a case of if you don’t believe like me your wrong? The more they attack Godly People the more they prove there is a God. How ironic is that?

excellent, Sami.
