Former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura secretly visited Fort Hood last night and spent “considerable time” consoling those who were wounded in Thursday’s shooting spree, Fox News has learned.
The Bushes entered and departed the sprawling military facility in secret, having told the base commander they did not want press coverage of their visit, a source told Fox News.
The couple was described as “deeply concerned” about military families on Fort Hood after Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly opened fire on soldiers and civilians, killing 13 and wounding 38.
The Bushes, who have a 1,600-acre property known as Prairie Chapel Ranch less than 30 miles from Fort Hood in central Texas, spent between one and two hours visiting the wounded and their families.

Regarding that last paragraph, I think the writer was also trying to point out that it was “just” a 30-mile trip for the Bushes. Not that distance has ever been a problem for Obama “I’m Leaving on a Jet Plane” Obama. How far did he and Michelle fly (separate aircraft) for their Olympics bid? How far did Obama fly to escape the March on Washington held on 9/12, so as to speak at a tiny townhall meeting on ObamaCare?
Thirty miles or 30,000 miles from Fort Hood, it makes no difference to me… the Bushes are real patriots. Class acts. And with no photo ops to prove how wonderful they are. I recall how last year, prior to the election, Obama went on his tour of various countries, and when in Iraq, canceled his scheduled visit to the wounded troops because there wouldn’t be a photo op session (I think it was because of security or something). I may be getting some of the details wrong, but I remember thinking then, what an ass.
I’m impressed, as usual, by the shocking differences of behavior between the old POTUS and the current POTUS.

We all see the difference between Bush 43 and O.
The Bushes did not request a photo-op.
The O wants face time and will probably get it at Ft. Hood.
I think there will be a big media show next week with Obama in the star position, pumping his health bill. He couldn’t care less about those soldiers.
It’s all about him.
IMO wrong priorities, no patriot here !

The last paragraph in your comment was directed to the uber liberals that read your blog, and not necessary given the fact that the Bushes refused any cameras.
Who cares what amount of property they own?
Obama is trying to own the United States for god’s sake.
